Saturday could prove to be a real turning point for the Dockers back home in Perth.

After a disastrous 1-3 start to the season, Freo has come good in recent weeks with a pair of blowout wins over the Hawks and Swans to edge closer to the top eight.

This shapes a tougher litmus test against a Geelong team that has made a habit of responding strongly to a previous loss, but fans of Freo should feel confident knowing they knocked off the Cats in a three-point thriller just over a year ago.

Geelong remains one of the highest-scoring teams in the competition, but where they really came undone last week in their shock loss to Richmond was in the tackles department.

Applying pressure has been a problem area for Chris Scott’s side all year, made worse by Patrick Dangerfield, Cam Guthrie, and Rhys Stanley’s absence.

On the flip side, tackling has been one of Freo’s strong points, which isn’t surprising considering the defence-first approach Justin Longmuir has instilled at the club.

For all their problems finding the goals, the Dockers have amassed 100 points in back-to-back weeks now, setting up an interesting matchup against a Cats side that is a far cry from the stingy defensive unit we saw last year.

Looking back, Freo has turned in three awful performances against teams currently inside the eight, losing by big margins to Brisbane, the Dogs, and Adelaide.

This is their chance to redeem themselves though, and they might do just that if they can bring consistent pressure and capitalise on Geelong’s turnovers, just like Richmond did.
