Preview:
The young Lions – who had eight debutants playing managed to beat last year’s premiers (an injury depleted) Adelaide Crows by 13 points in what many regarded to be the upset of the round.
The Lions make the trip to GMHBA Stadium to take on the Cats who are coming off a 16 point loss to Freo as favorites.
Brisbane’s pressure and ability to get the job done infront of goal was vital in their win last weekend but the question remains if they can back it up against Geelong at the Cattery.
It doesn’t matter if it’s AFLW or what some now dub as “AFLM” facing Geelong on their home deck is always a daunting prospect.
Geelong are coming off a loss and travelling back from Perth but they fought hard all day in a fierce contest against Freo and scores were level at the start of the fourth quarter.
Oliava Purcell was a ball magnet for the Cats with 27 disposals and Julia Crockett-Grills was also handy with 22 disposals and five marks to her name.
The Cats and Lions have met once before, last season in Round 6 when Geelong easily accounted for Brisbane with a 27 point win.
In that match, Brisbane kicked their lowest score of their AFLW history of 1-2 (8).
That result managed to help Geelong book a spot in the preliminary final under the controversial conference system.
When doing footy tipping, you know to back the Cats at home.
The Lions are young and had a great win, but I just can’t see them backing it up and Geelong to win at $2 is too good not to take up.
