The Suns square up for a serious litmus test on Saturday afternoon against the competition heavyweights.

After a disappointing effort the week prior against Carlton, the Suns responded in a big way last week against the understrength Hawks, erasing an early three-goal deficit to win comfortably.

On their day, Stuart Dew’s side looks every bit a finals contender, but with fans asking for more consistency before labeling them a genuine threat, this should be another tell-all game.

The Pies, on the other hand, pulled off their usual three-quarter time trick last week against the Crows.

Nick Daicos starred in another stirring fourth quarter victory, but it’s fair to say the Pies showed some chinks in the armor coughing up 69 turnovers and allowing Adelaide to have 57 forward half entries.

The Suns aren’t as potent up forward in comparison to the Crows, but with Jack Lukosius in strong form, Gold Coast could make this more interesting than the odds suggest.

Only five points separated these two sides when they met last year, while the Suns holding home-field advantage is also a factor.

On paper though, the Pies hold a clear advantage through the midfield, and as we’ve seen for nearly two years, their resolve and belief in the fourth quarter is almost unmatched.

Given the Suns have problems closing out games at times, the Pies should pull away late in front of their supporters.
