Preview:

THE HOTTEST team in the competition heads north to take on the Suns in a mouth-watering Sunday afternoon game. The Swans have won six straight and the Lance Franklin-Kurt Tippett-Adam Goodes forward line has fired in the past three weeks. The Suns had their bubble burst by Adelaide last weekend but are still well and truly entrenched in the top eight and only trail the Swans on percentage. The availability of full-back Rory Thompson (wrist) may have a big say in the outcome, as Gold Coast will struggle to match the Swans’ big forwards without him. Fresh from humiliating Geelong last start, it’s hard to go past the Swans in this one.

LAST THREE TIMES
R2, 2013, Sydney Swans 17.12 (114) d Gold Coast 11.7 (73) at SCG
R18, 2012, Sydney Swans 19.12 (126) d Gold Coast 8.6 (54) at Metricon Stadium
R16, 2011, Sydney Swans 15.16 (106) d Gold Coast 4.12 (36) at Metricon Stadium

THE SIX POINTS
1. The Swans have dominated the three contests to date, winning by an average margin of 61 points and kicking 115 points a game.

2. Gold Coast has struggled to win hit-outs this season, averaging 32 a game to be ranked last in the League. The Swans are faring little better, ranked 16th with 34.2 a game.

3. It will be a battle of the two best ball winners in 2014, with Josh Kennedy (317 disposals) just shading Gary Ablett (314). They are also second and first respectively for contested possessions.

4. The Suns’ improvement has been remarkable this season. In their first three years they averaged 75 points for and 110 against. This season it is 95 for and 88 against.

5. Not only do Ablett and Kennedy lead the individual contested possession counts, but the Suns (152.4 a game) and Swans (150 per game) are also one-two as teams.

6. Kieren Jack loves playing the Suns. The nimble midfielder is ranked eight overall on the Official AFL Player Ratings, brought to you by Gatorade, and has averaged the most points in the three matches against the Suns.
