The Opening Round will wrap up on Sunday afternoon when the GWS Giants host the Collingwood Magpies at ENGIE Stadium.

GWS’ 2024 season ended in devastating fashion, blowing a 44-point third-quarter lead to lose 105-100 to Brisbane in a semi-final, following a similar collapse against Sydney the week before.

In response, the Giants have added Jake Stringer from Essendon, though they lost key players in James Peatling, Isaac Cumming, and Harry Perryman.

Collingwood also endured a disappointing end to their season, failing to reach the top eight after winning the 2023 Premiership. They’ve strengthened their squad by bringing in Dan Houston from Port Adelaide, along with Perryman.

Last season, GWS defeated Collingwood 114-82 in their only meeting, with Tom Green posting 30 disposals. However, Green will be sidelined for Sunday’s game due to a calf strain.
