The home team Hawthorn Hawks are the favourites for the match. View our preview and teams for the game between Hawthorn Hawks and Adelaide Crows.

When: 19:25 | Saturday 16/06/2018

Where: MCG

Preview:

Important game for both teams but if the Crows lose, they have a tough draw to come and it will make it nearly impossible to make the eight.
Hawks’ Cyril Rioli has returned to Darwin for personal reasons but he has been missing for most of the year so it shouldn’t impact them too much.
It’s been a disaster for the Crows right from the start.
It appears they have made many mistakes with their training program and preparation since they lost last year’s grand final.
The effort was there in parts against the Dockers but by no means was it a four-quarter effort against a team they should have beaten which is concerning.

KEY BATTLE: Sam Gibson v Tom Mitchell

Gibson is the Crows only run with player and should get the job on Hawthorn’s best midfielder.
The Verdict
Hawthorn should be fresh off the bye playing at home while the Crows still have injuries and are coming back from a long trip from Perth.
Hawks’ forward Jack Gunston has been the first goal-scorer in each of Hawthorn’s last two matches as a favourite.

AFL News:

Cyril Rioli has been granted personal leave from Hawthorn with no set date for him to return to the AfL club.

The four-time premiership player had been set to return from a knee injury which has sidelined him since round four.

However, the Hawks announced that the indigenous star had asked to return to the Northern Territory.

“Cyril expressed to us his desire to return to Darwin with his wife Shannyn and be with their family,” Hawthorn’s general manager of football Graham Wright said in a statement.

“Physically, Cyril is in great condition, and potentially could have played for us in the coming weeks. However, we acknowledge his desire to be with family.

“Our priority at Hawthorn is our people and we ask that Cyril’s privacy be respected at this time.”

The 28-year-old Rioli has been given compassionate leave by Hawthorn several times in his career, including late last year when he spent an extended period of time in the NT after his father suffered a heart attack.

The Hawks face Adelaide at the MCG on Saturday night.
