Hunt focused despite NRL speculation

Despite mounting speculation over his future, Gold Coast remain confident Karmichael Hunt is fully focused on his AFL career.

Melbourne Storm are the latest NRL club to declare they would be interested in speaking to Hunt if he decides his time with the Suns and AFL is at an end.

Just last week Gold Coast Titans coach John Cartwright said he’d love to pursue the former Australia and Queensland representative while former club Brisbane is also believed to be in the running to sign Hunt.

The former rugby league star’s contract with the Suns ends this year and he’s yet to open discussions with the Suns about an extension.

An injury-marred pre-season and the impressive form of the Suns’ young midfielders mean Hunt hasn’t played for the club since round 23 last year.

Suns’ assistant coach Matt Primus is adamant the uncertainty isn’t affecting the player and his relationship with the club.

“He’s had some injury interruptions, a bit of concussion and a bit of a foot injury,” Primus said.

“He wants to get back playing and force his way into the senior team. That’s his goals for the year.

“We understand the speculation around him because of who he is but he’s certainly attempting to train as well as he can and get himself back into the team. We just deal with that.”
