Indigenous stars to shine in AFL finals

INDIGENOUS STARS SET TO SHINE IN AFL FINALS

* CHARLIE CAMERON. The Brisbane spark has booted 54 goals in an All Australian season. With dazzling speed, uncanny goal-kicking and an inherent love for tackling, Cameron is the complete package and arguably the key factor in Brisbane’s revival.

* TIM KELLY. Geelong’s smooth-moving midfielder has become a sensation in just two seasons in the AFL. Averaging 25 disposals a game this season and uses almost all with sheer class, is rarely beaten in one-on-one duels.

* QUINTON NARKLE. The man nicknamed Sparkle has timed his run perfectly after finally breaking into the Cats’ team for the first time this year in round 21. After playing key roles in the wins over North Melbourne and Carlton in the past month, the elusive midfielder will be almost impossible to overlook in September.

* LIAM RYAN. West Coast’s human highlight package boasts a spectacular high leap which has produced some soaring marks this season. Also a threat at ground level, Ryan has 26 goals and 17 goal assists this year.

* WILLIE RIOLI. A teammate of Ryan at West Coast, Rioli’s surname is synonymous with success – he’s the nephew of Richmond premiership hero Maurice, uncle of Tiger premiership-winner Daniel, and cousin of Hawthorn flag-winning great Cyril.

* ANTHONY McDONALD-TIPUNGWUTI. Essendon’s barometer. If he gets rolling, inevitably the Bombers do too. A muscular frame with silky skills and pace to burn, he’s among the most dangerous forwards in the competition.

* SHANE EDWARDS. A Richmond stalwart and beloved figure at his club. He’s given licence to thrill by coach Damien Hardwick, who implores Edwards to take on opponents – more often than not, with thrilling effect.

* SHAI BOLTON. Another ace in Richmond’s pack, Bolton doesn’t win a heap of the footy but is becoming cherished for his tackling, pressure acts and his ability to find space where others can’t.

* ZAC WILLIAMS. The GWS mainstay has rebounded after a 2018 season wrecked by injury to restore his status as a key Giant. Renowned for his defensive mastery and clean ball use from the backline.
