Lions’ Black, Adcock, Rich go under knife

In a sign Brisbane fans hope indicates Simon Black will play again in 2014, the Brownlow Medallist has opted for off-season surgery along with fellow Lions leaders Jed Adcock and Daniel Rich.

Black, 34, has gone under the knife on both his left and right groins and knees as he weighs up extending his glittering AFL career.

Lions co-captain Adcock and deputy Rich have both had minor ankle surgery and will be able to return for pre-season training with the rest of the group on November 4.

It remains to be seen whether Black joins them.

The triple premiership player was limited to just eight games this season due to injury and suspension but still averaged more than 22 touches a match.

He missed the first six rounds due to a knee injury, only to be struck down by groin and more knee problems in the latter half of the season.

The out of contract veteran had not indicated whether he would hang up the boots or not before the Lions sensationally missed grabbing a back door finals entrance after Essendon fell out of the top eight over the supplements saga.

Black – the Lions record holder with 322 games – is weighing up his future along with fellow club champion Jonathan Brown who recently underwent foot and knee surgery in another encouraging sign for Brisbane fans.

It remains to be seen whether either player announces their future at the Lions club champion dinner on Friday night.
