Brisbane are weighing up whether to take Dayne Zorko’s striking ban to the AFL tribunal.
The Lions were unhappy after the match review panel offered Zorko a one-match ban for striking Carlton opponent Lachie Plowman.
They risk a two-game ban if they challenge the charge and have until late on Tuesday morning to make the decision.
Zorko hit Plowman in the midriff early in the third quarter of the Lions’ win on Sunday at the ‘Gabba.
The MRP ruled the punch was medium impact, but the AFL website has reported that Zorko insists he hit Plowman with an open hand.
It was an expensive third quarter for Zorko – he also was fined $1000 for striking Blues youngster Sam Petrevski-Seton.
If Brisbane take Zorko’s ban to the tribunal and fail, it means they lose the star midfielder for next Sunday’s West Coast game in Perth and then the round-20 home game against the Western Bulldogs.
While the Lions are weighing up a tribunal challenge, GWS quickly accepted bad boy Toby Greene’s two-game striking suspension.
Greene’s history of tribunal offences means he will serve a two-match AFL striking ban for the second time this season.
The match review panel offered the star GWS forward the penalty for jabbing Richmond defender Alex Rance to the head during Sunday’s loss at the MCG.
GWS quickly took the early plea, reducing Greene’s penalty from three games to two.
It means he misses key games against Fremantle and Melbourne.
Greene’s incident was a turning point in Sunday’s loss, which leaves the Giants in big trouble.
Western Bulldogs key position player Jack Redpath faces a one-game ban for striking Gold Coast co-captain Tom Lynch.
Redpath and Lynch were also fined for wrestling each other.
Fremantle star Michael Walters was offered a $1500 fine for striking Hawthorn onballer Tom Mitchell.
Umpire contact has cost West Coast’s Dom Sheed a $1000 fine.
