Brisbane will weigh up going to the tribunal after they lost star defender Harris Andrews for Saturday’s massive AFL clash with Hawthorn.
Andrews was banned for one game after match reviewer Michael Christian upheld the match day report for striking North Melbourne forward Nick Larkey.
The Lions have nothing to lose in terms of penalty by taking the case to Tuesday’s tribunal.
Andrews is one of their best defenders and Saturday’s Launceston match is now a big game, with the Lions rising to second on the ladder and the resurgent Hawks on a three-game winning streak.
The Lions backman gave away a free kick when he appeared to collect Larkey’s throat with his forearm in the first quarter of Saturday night’s narrow win at the Gabba.
There was no broadcast vision of the incident and it is understood Andrews was also reported when the free was paid.
Christian assessed the charge as intentional conduct with low impact and high contact.
Also on Monday, Christian cleared West Coast defender Tom Barrass of a collision that concussed Melbourne co-captain Jack Viney, saying the Eagle did not elect to bump and the contact was not unreasonable.
Andrews’ teammate Dayne Zorko and Jy Simpkin were fined $1000 apiece for misconduct against each other.
GWS forward Jeremy Finlayson was also fined $1000 for misconduct against Collingwood’s Flynn Appleby and Carlton utility Jack Silvagni is out of pocket $1000 for careless umpire contact.
