Lions yet to plot Brown’s recovery

Scans have confirmed Brisbane AFL star forward Jonathan Brown has a torn plantar fascia in his left foot but the Lions are yet to decide on his rehabilitation.

Off contract at this season’s end, the injury has raised fears that Brown’s 245th AFL game last weekend may have been his last.

It appears he won’t return to action in 2013, and will decide on his playing future after the season.

The Lions on Tuesday said the injury would be allowed to settle over the next fortnight before they assessed the best treatment.

Brown, who turns 32 in October, sustained the injury midway through the opening term of Saturday night’s 31-point win over St Kilda at the Gabba.

Before undergoing scans on Monday afternoon, the Brisbane co-captain still held hope he could play for the 12th-placed club again this year.

“A recovery timeline at this stage is still to be confirmed,” the Lions said in a club statement.

“The injury will be allowed to settle over the next 1-2 weeks before a decision is made regarding the most appropriate treatment and rehabilitation.”
