Giant forward Tom Lynch has become the latest Gold Coast youngster to re-commit to the AFL club.

The 199cm Lynch has extended his contract by two years until the end of the 2016 season.

The news will come as a boost to the 21-year-old, whose 2013 season was cut short when he suffered a posterior cruciate ligament injury against Essendon in the Suns’ round-12 fixture.

“In the end, it was probably a frustrating season,” Lynch said.

“The team was going really well, and I just wanted to be out there with he boys, but I’m putting those injuries behind me as I can’t wait for 2014.”

Lynch joins several other players in signing new deals this year including Trent McKenzie, AFL rising star Jaeger O’Meara, Dion Prestia, Charlie Dixon and key defender Rory Thompson.

Suns list manager Scott Clayton says Lynch, who has made 38 appearances with the expansion club, is showing signs of being a future leader.

“Tom is a quality young man, who is forging a great reputation as an emerging leader internally at the Gold Coast football club and that is coinciding with his continued progression as a player,” Clayton said.
