Fremantle star Nathan Fyfe has been the best backed player to win the Norm Smith Medal for best on ground in Saturday’s AFL Grand Final.
Fyfe, who polled 18 votes in last night’s Brownlow Medal to be Fremantle’s highest vote-getter, has been backed from $10 into a $7 equal favourite with Hawthorn skipper Luke Hodge.
“The money for Fyfe reflects punters confidence that Fremantle can pull off an upset win over the Hawks. Norm Smith winners usually have a premiership medallion also hanging around their neck,” Centrebet’s Michael Felgate said.
While Nath Fyfe has been the punters pick in early Norm Smith Medal betting; Sam Mitchell, the subject of a nation-wide Brownlow plunge, has been friendless in betting easing from $6 favourite out to $8.
“We expected Mitchell to be very well supported as he always fires in big games but we have hardly taken a bet on him. Mitchell polled below expectations in the Brownlow with just 16 votes so that could be playing on punters minds ,” Felgate said.
Fremantle has four of the top seven players in betting for the Norm Smith Medal which is unusual for the Grand Final outsider but the Dockers have had plenty of support this week.
“The Hawks will start favourites but there is plenty of money to say they can be beaten, Fremantle has firmed from $2.35 into $2.30 while Hawthorn continues to drift from $1.58 out to $1.65,” Felgate said
