North Melbourne Kangaroos vs Carlton Blues Preview

There should be no complaints about North Melbourne occupying the Good Friday time slot this year.

Despite last week’s loss to the Hawks, the new-look Roos have been playing a competitive brand of footy all year, setting up a juicy blockbuster against a Carlton side that left a lot to be desired on the road last week against GWS.

To their credit (and maybe the umpires), the Blues got the job done by 10 points to remain undefeated, but it was another low-scoring, mistake-filled performance that suggests they still have some improving to do.

North had their moments in the Alastair Clarkson grudge match against the Hawks, but after traveling south to Tassie after playing in Perth a week earlier, it seemed like the Roos simply ran out of legs in the fourth quarter.

The Roos also gave up an unsightly amount of uncontested marks to Hawthorn, an area of strength for Carlton so far this year.

Getting back to Melbourne after a couple of tricky weeks on the road should do North a world of good, but I do have questions about their back half after giving up 25 scoring shots to a Hawthorn team that isn’t that strong up forward.

Scoring points hasn’t been a huge strength for the Blues so far, but it’s worth noting Harry McKay and Charlie Curnow combined for seven goals when they met last year.

With both sides looking to improve on last week and also hit the scoreboard, I think Carlton to win and the over is a good play.
