The Kangaroos and Eagles each won just two of their 22 matches in the 2022 season, making this game an early opportunity for both teams to get off to a strong start.

Interestingly, North Melbourne’s only victory over a non-expansion side in 2022 came against West Coast, in a Round 2 encounter at this very venue. The Kangaroos triumphed 74-59, with Nick Larkey leading the way with six goals from 16 disposals. The Eagles were forced to make 14 changes to their lineup due to injury and health and safety protocols, contributing to their defeat.

Last season marked North Melbourne’s lowest win total since 1972, while it was West Coast’s worst season in club history. In the offseason, North Melbourne recruited Alastair Clarkson as their new head coach and added draftees Harry Sheezel and George Wardlaw, as well as Fremantle’s Griffin Logue.
