Eventually they’ll knick a close one, but it’s still a matter of time for the Roos, who had not one, but two hard lessons handed to them in the last two weeks with close losses.

In saying that, if there is any team in the competition who are susceptible to an out-of-order loss, it’s the Bulldogs, so reading into form is dangerous in this clash.

The best of the West was quite evident against the Dockers, daring and demanding inside 50, with a flurry of entries that were impossible to stop, along with the impact their midfielders have in the forward half.

North left it too late against the Dees, although were able to show portions of control and poise on the wider playing surface of the G’ that they’re unaccustomed to.

The main emphasis for the Roos is their defensive application in the midfield, as a lack of midfield presence up forward typically shuts down the Dogs scoring impact up forward.

The Dogs are typically defeated by their own style, fast footy that exploits the width of the ground and draws their defensive line high up.

Pressure around the contest has significantly improved for the Roos and it will need to be prevalent to match the Dogs in centre clearances, where they’re likely to dominate.

The Roos won’t want another close finish, but against the Dogs, a close finish is one of their weaknesses, so it would be the perfect opportunity.

With all that said, it’s a big task for the Roos to handle for the third straight week, and their track record against the Dogs isn’t too pretty, without a win since 2019.
