Brisbane Lions defender Joel Patfull has been voted his club’s best and fairest player for the second consecutive AFL season.

Patfull, 27, had another superb season in defence, playing all 22 games regular season games.

In winning the Merrett-Murray Medal he polled a total of 31.5 votes from the Lions Match Committee edging out Irishman Pearce Hanley (30.5) and Jack Redden (26.5).

Patfull was once again the team’s best defender, leading in total marks (114), spoils (140), and intercept possessions (135).

St Kilda midfielder and first time All-Australian nominee, Jack Steven, capped a breakout season in winning his his club’s Trevor Barker Award.

The 23-year-old from Lorne took his game to another level in 2013, averaging 26.9 disposals per game and featuring in the league’s top 10 in clearances, handballs and disposals.

Steven collected more than 30 possessions in seven games this season, including a career-best 47 disposals against Fremantle in Round 23.

In the best and fairest count he polled 152 votes, ahead of Nick Riewoldt with 115 and Leigh Montagna with 113.

Fellow All-Australian nominee Nick Riewoldt ranked first in the AFL for marks, taking 202 for the season at an average of 9.6 per game.

Adelaide’s Malcolm Blight Medal winner is Rory Sloane.

He polled a total of 71 votes to edge out Richard Douglas (68) while Patrick Dangerfield and Daniel Talia tied for third place on 60 votes.

Sloane played 21 of a possible 22 games, earning votes in all bar two matches.
