Pavlich, Johnson face AFL bans

Fremantle captain Matthew Pavlich faces a three-match AFL ban and Geelong star Steve Johnson has been hit with his third suspension of the season.

The star pair are among six players offered bans by the match review panel on Monday.

Hawthorn’s Shaun Burgoyne (two games), West Coast’s Andrew Embley (two games), Sydney’s Ben McGlynn (three) and Port Adelaide’s Kane Cornes (one) are the others.

Hawthorn’s Jordan Lewis can accept a reprimand over a low-grade striking offence, while West Coast skipper Darren Glass faces a fine for umpire contact.

Star Fremantle forward Pavlich has had just two games back for the Dockers after a long stint out with an Achilles injury.

He was charged with making reckless front-on head contact to Eagles defender Mitch Brown in Sunday’s derby in Perth.

A potential four-match ban can be reduced to three games if the Dockers star pleads guilty.

Johnson was booked for dropping his knee into the body of Melbourne’s Nathan Jones on Saturday.

He could have escaped with a reprimand if not for a penalty loading for previous suspensions.

Johnson was in his first game back after missing two games because of a high bump on Brisbane’s Pearce Hanley, and he also missed the opening round after being banned for striking Fremantle’s Hayden Ballantyne in the pre-season.

The penalty loading means he will risk a two-match suspension if he challenges his latest charge.

Burgoyne was charged with rough conduct against Port Adelaide’s Tom Logan.

Embley was booked for rough conduct against Fremantle’s Clancee Pearce.

McGlynn was cited for striking Greater Western Sydney’s Tom Scully.

Cornes was charged with rough conduct against Hawk veteran Sam Mitchell.
