Pies lose four, Fyfe out for Freo in AFL

Collingwood have lost four players to injury for Saturday’s crunch clash with GWS, while Brownlow medal fancy Nat Fyfe has been ruled out for Fremantle following a short hospital stay.

The Magpies will be without Darcy Moore (hamstring), Jamie Elliott (soreness), Levi Greenwood (shoulder), and first-gamer John Noble (calf) against the Giants.

But skipper Scott Pendlebury has been named just days after undergoing finger surgery.

The Magpies have recalled Jeremy Howe, Taylor Adams, Travis Varcoe, and Flynn Appleby for a game that will have major repercussions on the top four.

The Giants have lost Stephen Coniglio to a knee injury, but will be boosted by the return of ruckman Shane Mumford among three changes.

Fyfe has been battling a mystery shoulder injury in recent weeks.

But it is an infection in his right elbow that will keep him out of Saturday night’s home match against Sydney.

Fyfe had to go into hospital this week to treat the issue with an antibiotic drip.

It’s the same elbow that he required surgery on during the pre-season.

In better news for Fremantle, ruckman Aaron Sandilands has been cleared to return despite a recent calf scare.

Travis Colyer, Ryan Nyhuis, and Ethan Hughes were axed, paving the way for Taylin Duman, Griffin Logue, and Brett Bewley to return.

The Swans axed Kieren Jack and Ben Ronke among their four changes.

Essendon lost Michael Hurley (shoulder), Jayden Laverde (managed), Zac Clarke (illness), and Orazio Fantasia (hip) for Friday night’s showdown with the Crows in Adelaide.

Skipper Dyson Heppell returns from a foot injury, while Michael Hartley, debutant Will Snelling, and Patrick Ambrose were also called up.

The Crows recalled Tom Lynch.

Port Adelaide were dealt a triple blow ahead of Saturday’s match against Richmond, losing Ollie Wines (thumb), Brad Ebert (knee), and Ryan Burton (hamstring).

Dan Houston, Xavier Duursma, Matthew Broadbent, while Richmond have recalled Jack Graham and Liam Baker.

Gold Coast have recalled Corey Ellis, Peter Wright, Chris Burgess, and Jacob Dawson in a bid to end their 12-game losing streak when they take on Carlton on Saturday.

Lachie Weller (illness) is the most notable out, while the Blues have called up Jacob Weitering to replace Hugh Goddard (fractured cheekbone).

Brisbane have been boosted by the return of Luke Hodge, Eric Hipwood, and Hugh McCluggage for Saturday night’s clash with North Melbourne at the Gabba.

The Kangaroos welcome back star veteran Shaun Higgins, Sam Durdin, and Mason Wood.

Scott Selwood has been named in Geelong’s extended squad for Sunday’s encounter with Hawthorn.

Jack Gunston and Jonathon Ceglar have been named in the Hawks’ 26-man squad.

West Coast have lost Nic Naitanui (ankle) and Jamie Cripps (groin) for Sunday’s match against Melbourne in Alice Springs.

Jake Waterman, Jack Petruccelle, and premiership defender Will Schofield are among the inclusions in the extended squad.

The Bulldogs have lost Toby McLean to a hamstring injury for Sunday’s encounter with St Kilda, but Tom Liberatore, Bailey Dale, Caleb Daniel, and Dale Morris are among the potential inclusions.
