It’s an interesting time to be a footy fan in South Australia right now.

After knocking off the Lions in Round 1, Port came crashing back to earth last week with a loss to Collingwood – a result that left Ollie Wines questioning his sides belief and intensity.

On the other hand, the Crows gave their fans something to cheer about with a spirited third-quarter comeback against Richmond, only to fall apart in the final term on their way to another disappointing 32-point loss.

Adelaide has to be the most maddening team to try and tip each week, which makes Showdown 53 even tougher to get a feel for.

If the Crows kicked straight they may have beaten the Tigers, but as far as the coaching chopping block is concerned, Matthew Nicks has to be close to the top of the list.

Adelaide’s basic effort and fitness has come into question through the first two rounds, and if the Power can get back to that same fast brand of fast footy they displayed against Brisbane to open the year, this could be another nail in the coffin.

As fans know well, the Crows won on the siren in the first Showdown last year, but the Power got the last laugh winning the August rematch 111-55.

If you’ve been keeping count, you’ll know Port has won six of the last 10 Showdown’s, and with Darcy Fogarty under an injury cloud, it’s tough to get on board with any kind of Crows upset.
