Preview:

In the undisputed match of the round, 1st placed Port Adelaide take on 2nd placed Hawthorn on Saturday, 7.10PM at Adelaide Oval.  While Port will go into this match as slight favourites, past form would suggest otherwise.  Having beaten Port Adelaide in each of their last five meetings, this will be the first premiership season game where the Hawks will enter as underdogs since round four, 2012.  While the Hawks will be keen to prove everyone wrong, beating Port at home will be a very difficult prospect.

To make things ever harder, the Hawks will be without some key talent this weekend, with Josh Gibson, Sam Mitchell, Cyril Rioli, and Brian Lake all out due to injury and key forward Jarryd Roughead suspended.  If Port win this match, they will move eight points clear of the Hawks on the ladder and set themselves up as major contenders for the flag.  However, they will have to stop the AFL’s highest scoring team in Hawthorn, and the most accurate team kicking at goal at 60.9 percent.

News :

North Melbourne ruckman Todd Goldstein has signed a two-year contract extension, tying him to the AFL club until at least the end of the 2016 season.

Restricted free agent Goldstein would have attracted plenty of interest from rivals, but said he never entertained thoughts of leaving the Kangaroos.

“I always said I wanted to stay at the club, we just had to get a deal done,” Goldstein said on Thursday, describing it as a “massive relief”.

“I’ve been at North for eight years and this will take me into my 10th year. I know what this footy club is about and I love what it’s about.

“There’s definitely a lot of excitement around the group about what we can achieve.”

Goldstein revealed he and manager Tom Petroro had never opened discussions with potential suitors.

“We hadn’t spoken to anyone (apart from North), I think we’ve had lots of chats over the past few months with the footy club,” he said, adding that the contract negotiations had not been any form of distraction this season.

“Credit to everyone for getting it done.”
