Two postponed AFLW games remain a chance to go ahead this weekend despite Western Australia’s coronavirus lockdown affecting four of the league’s 14 teams.
WA is in lockdown until at least Friday after a security guard at one of Perth’s quarantine hotels tested positive to COVID-19.
West Coast and Fremantle are under Perth’s strict lockdown, Adelaide are in a 14-day home quarantine, while Greater Western Sydney are in self-isolation in Sydney until at least Friday night.
The Dockers were meant to be taking on the Crows in Adelaide this weekend, while the Eagles and GWS were also due to meet.
AFLW boss Nicole Livingstone said the round two situation would become clearer in coming days.
“There’s still hope that we will play those games in the round two framework; we’re working with authorities on what we can and can’t do,” she told reporters on Tuesday.
“I wish we had have been able to get a couple more rounds away before we were dealing with these complexities.
“Those two matches that are TBC, we’re keeping in touch with the clubs and the government authorities before making further decisions.
“Let’s hope the WA outbreak ends up being a little bit like the Queensland outbreak where they were able to get it under control very quickly.”
GWS had been staying in an Adelaide hub – after previously spending two weeks in Albury – in the wake of NSW’s last coronavirus outbreak.
But the Giants were able to return home from Perth, after losing to Fremantle, via Adelaide on Monday.
“Thankfully, we’ve been able to get GWS home, which was one of the goals that we wanted to achieve,” Livingstone said.
“They’ve had their first night in their own beds for a few weeks so they’ll be pleased about that.
“All four of the clubs affected are in their homes and the clubs were very quickly able to get exercise programs and equipment to them so I feel like they’re in as good a shape as can be given the snap notice.”
A women’s fixture beyond round two is yet to be released.
Livingstone said the league planned to unveil more match-ups this week before the developments in WA.
“The pause button is on that at the moment until we get those two games sorted,” Livingstone said.
