Rockliff faces one-game AFL suspension

Brisbane midfielder Tom Rockliff faces a one-game ban for rough conduct after an AFL investigation.

The match review panel charged Rockliff for contact with Hawthorn star Sam Mitchell early in Saturday’s match at Launceston.

The investigation looked at available video footage and a medical report from the Hawks before the charge was laid.

The contact was ruled to be intentional, low impact and to the body.

Rockliff was handed a two-game ban, but he has no existing good or bad record.

That means he can reduce the penalty to one game with an early plea.

West Coast utility Sharrod Wellingham can accept a reprimand for tripping Western Bulldogs defender Jason Johannisen in Sunday’s win at Patersons Stadium.

Adelaide’s Lewis Johnston was cleared of a match-day report for making front-on contact with Geelong star Steve Johnson.

The match review panel also cleared Hawks defender Josh Gibson for an incident where he made high contact with Brisbane’s Michael Close.

The decision frees up Gibson for Friday’s night clash with fierce rivals Essendon.

Immediately after Mitchell tackled Close, Gibson also caught the young Lion high as he was falling to the ground.

A free kick was paid, but the panel ruled that the incident was outside Gibson’s control.
