SA clubs to bid for Brisbane’s Polec

A home-sick Jared Polec is wanted by both South Australian AFL clubs after walking out of his current club Brisbane.

Adelaide-born Polec has told Brisbane he wants to return to SA, with the Crows and Port Adelaide now bidding to sign the 20-year-old.

Polec played 15 games in three seasons with Brisbane after being chosen with pick five at the 2010 national draft.

“Clearly a player that has been picked that high in the draft has got an unbelievable amount of talent,” Port coach Ken Hinkley told reporters on Thursday.

“The Port Adelaide Football Club would be incredibly interested in him as a player. And if we could possibly convince him to play at our football club next year, we would look forward to doing that.”

Crows coach Brenton Sanderson is also an admirer of Polec, who is a close friend of Adelaide’s half-back Brodie Smith.

“He’s a talent. He has got speed, he’s the right height, he’s a left-footer and he was a very high draft pick,” Sanderson told Adelaide radio station 5AA.

“I loved his (recruiting) tapes. He is best mates with Brodie Smith … and I know he wants to come home. So he’s definitely one name on our list.”
