Sam Day signs new deal with AFL Suns

Gold Coast forward Sam Day has committed to the AFL club through to the end of the 2021 season.

The two-year contract extension caps a big month for the 26-year-old who has forced his way back into the senior line-up after appearing surplus to requirements.

A foundation player for the Suns, injury problems had left Day behind Peter Wright, Chris Burgess, mature-age recruit Josh Corbett and draftee Ben King in the pecking order for the club’s tall forward options.

Day however returned to the team in round 13 and will line up for his sixth game of the season against Essendon on Sunday at Metricon Stadium.

Selected with pick three in the 2010 draft, Day has played 115 games for the Suns since debuting in 2011, kicking 79 goals.

Day is the latest player to commit their long-term future to the Suns in 2019 joining fellow foundation player David Swallow, co-captain Jarrod Witts and vice-captain Touk Miller.
