Scarlett, Ballantyne accept AFL bans

Geelong fullback Matthew Scarlett and Fremantle’s Hayden Ballantyne have both accepted suspensions following incidents in Saturday’s fiery AFL encounter at Patersons Stadium.

Scarlett has been banned for three weeks for his punch to the jaw of Ballantyne, who was the central figure in several flare-ups during the match which Fremantle won by four points.

Scarlett will be sidelined for the Cats’ upcoming games against Hawthorn, North Melbourne and Richmond.

Ballantyne submitted an early guilty plea for an off-the-ball strike on Geelong’s Paul Chapman, ruling him out of the Dockers’ next two games against Sydney and Brisbane.

Geelong midfielder James Kelly accepted a reprimand and 93.75 carry-over for striking Fremantle’s Tendai Mzungu.

St Kilda’s Dean Polo has pleaded guilty to engaging in rough conduct against Danyle Pearce from Port Adelaide and been suspended for Sunday’s game against Gold Coast.

The tribunal will not be required to sit on Tuesday night.
