Melbourne star Max Gawn has escaped with minor damage to his left knee after a training mishap at the AFL club’s pre-season camp in Maroochydore.
Gawn, who has undergone two reconstructions in his career, sparked fears he would require a third when he was sent for scans on Friday.
But after receiving the results, the club is confident the influential ruckman will be ready for round one of the AFL season.
“Max got a knock to the knee during a match simulation drill … and scans have since revealed a Grade 2 medial ligament strain,” Demons football boss Josh Mahoney said.
“Whilst exact timelines are yet to determined, at this stage, we anticipate he will be available for the start of the season.”
The 28-year-old played 21 games last season to take his career tally to 120.
Melbourne open their 2020 premiership campaign against West Coast at Optus Stadium on Sunday, March 22.
