Sydney Swans key forward Sam Reid is unlikely to play again this season after suffering another setback in his battle with a quadriceps injury.
Reid has missed the past seven matches.
“Unfortunately he’s pulled up a little bit sore and it looks like he’s aggravated the scar tissue in his old strain site,” Sydney physiotherapist Matt Cameron said.
“He’s now looking very much in doubt for getting up for the remainder of the season.”
Sydney also confirmed veteran defender Rhyce Shaw will undergo LARS surgery after suffering a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament right knee injury against Geelong last weekend.
“He’s seeing the surgeon today (Tuesday) and it’s really devastating news for him with his season over with an anterior ligament rupture,” Cameron said.
“It looks like he will be having a LARS procedure on his knee and that will allow him to spend the summer in rehab and figure early in the year next year.”
Midfielder Dan Hannebery is still considered unlikely to play against Hawthorn at ANZ Stadium on Friday after suffering bone bruising to a knee against Geelong.
“He is quite sore so we’re not all that hopeful and he looks likely to miss,” Cameron said.
Lewis Roberts-Thomson and Lewis Jetta are both some chance of returning from long-term injury against Hawthorn.
“The guy going the best is probably Lewis Jetta,” Cameron said.
“He’s done about three or four training sessions now and he’s coping well.
“He’s going to be training again tomorrow and we’ll see how he goes ahead of this weekend,”
“Lewis Roberts-Thomson started training yesterday and he’s also pulled up well from that.”
Adam Goodes is expected to resume running this week after he suffered a setback late last week in his recovery from knee surgery.
“We stopped him running last week just because he was getting a little bit sore, so we’ve given him a little bit of time off,” Cameron said.
“His knee is actually looking a lot better now and we’re hoping to get him going again this week.”
