Lance Franklin remains in doubt for Saturday’s crunch clash between Sydney and Hawthorn, having been on restricted duties at the AFL club’s final training session of the week.
Swans coach John Longmire indicated on Tuesday he will give Franklin until game day to show he has overcome a groin injury.
Franklin warmed up away from the Swans’ main group at the SCG on Thursday, although that has been a regular occurrence throughout a season in which the superstar has nursed a heel injury.
The gun forward, who has been inspirational in the Swans’ late-season resurgence, suffered the minor setback during the final quarter of his team’s derby victory.
Franklin completed a couple of handball drills and short kicks during Thursday morning training before media were asked to leave.
“We’ve got training today. All year he’s been on a program to get him right for most weeks,” ruckman Callum Sinclair told reporters prior to training.
“The club and the boys are going to give him every chance, so fingers crossed.”
Longmire was likewise optimistic on Tuesday, noting “if you understand what he’s able to play with during the year we’re usually pretty confident in his ability to get himself right”.
Luke Parker was among Franklin’s many teammates also on restricted duties after a bruising battle with GWS.
The absence of Franklin would be a big blow to the Swans’ hopes of winning their final game of the season, the winner of which will secure a top-four spot.
