Two Blues to pursue free agency

Experienced pair Bret Thornton and Jordan Russell have told Carlton they will try their luck in the AFL’s first free agency period.

Key-position player Thornton has played 188 games for Carlton since joining the club via the rookie list a decade ago.

The best of Russell’s eight years with the Blues was in 2010, when he finished second in the best and fairest award.

The No.9 pick in the 2004 national draft played 116 games for the Blues.

The Blues also delisted Rohan Kerr on Friday.

Midfielder Jeromey Webberley and Andrew Browne were among a handful of Richmond players delisted on Friday, only with small forward Addam Maric, who spent 2012 on the Tigers’ rookie list after being cut by Melbourne.
