Watts might miss chance to slay AFL Demons

Port Adelaide look unlikely to recall star recruit Jack Watts to face his old AFL side Melbourne.

Watts was dropped last week after inconsistent form over the first half of his debut season with Port.

This is his first chance to play against the Demons.

He responded with a strong game for Port’s SANFL team, but earlier this week coach Ken Hinkley said they are unlikely to make changes while they are in strong form.

In-form defender Tom Jonas could return from a hamstring injury in Friday night’s home game against Melbourne.

On-baller Dom Tyson leads the potential inclusions for Melbourne after their disappointing Queen’s Birthday loss to Collingwood.

Tyson was dropped after round eight and has managed only six AFL games this season.

Jeff Garlett, Billy Stretch and potential debutant Harrison Petty are also in the selection mix.

Daniel Wells’ injury could mean Collingwood teammate Brayden Sier makes his AFL debut.

Sier’s strong VFL form means he is pressing for senior selection, after two years blighted by injury problems.

The 20-year-old midfielder was the youngest player on the Magpies’ list when he joined them with pick No.32 in the 2015 draft.

Wells might be out for the rest of the season after he needed foot surgery.

The in-form Magpies will start short-priced favourites on Sunday against arch-rivals Carlton, who are coming off a woeful loss to Fremantle.

The Blues are set to regain midfielder Matthew Kennedy.

North Melbourne have lost key forward Jarrad Waite to a recurring calf muscle injury ahead of Saturday night’s Etihad Stadium clash against the Western Bulldogs.

The Kangaroos are set to recall Jed Anderson, while the luckless Bulldogs have massive injury problems.

They will lose captain Easton Wood, Lukas Webb and Jack Macrae while Marcus Bontempelli, Toby McLean and Tom Boyd also have to prove their fitness.
