Carlton’s capitulation at the hands of Hawthorn last week asked serious questions of the Blues’ finals credentials – the 74-point loss proving enough to not only knock them out of the eight ahead of this week’s trip to Perth.

Star forward Charlie Curnow is still under injury cloud at time of publish after hurting his ankle off the ball, while there’s big concerns for Adam Cerra and Jack Martin.

West Coast is clear of the wooden spoon picture with two weeks to play, so this is basically a free hit for them to spoil Carlton’s season and make a memorable statement looking ahead to next season.

A win here would also do wonders for interim head coach Jarrad Schofield’s resume, and on the flip side, stoke the hot seat underneath Michael Voss.

The Blues losing would be a genuine doomsday scenario for a club that once sat second on the ladder, but as we saw last week, health and injuries at this time of the year are very difficult to overcome.

Whether a trip west to get away from the media frenzy does them any good remains to be seen, but as the betting suggests, this one could be close.
