West Coast fans knew they might be in for a slim year, but no one could have predicted this.

The Eagles’ rock-bottom moment came last week with a 171-point thrashing at the hands of Sydney, but the dark days are far from over with the Saints in town looking to prove a point.

After sitting top four earlier in the year, St Kilda suddenly look like they belong in the “pretender” pile with three losses from their last four games.

To their credit, the Saints gave the Lions all they could handle in the first half last week, but Ross Lyon’s “defence first” structure was exposed, and not for the first time, against one of the best forward lines in the competition.

It feels as though St Kilda are happy just hanging around in games and kicking low scores, which isn’t a recipe for finals-winning footy.

Even so, this should be a win against a West Coast team that threw in the towel a long time ago. The Eagles’ veteran players look unfit and disinterested, and with the Adam Simpson saga occupying the headlines all week, it’s hard to know what the mentality is like behind the scenes.

This is a big line for a club that hasn’t kicked large scores all season, but with a chance to maybe make a statement, the Saints to win in high-scoring fashion looks likely.
