Western Bulldogs vs Adelaide Crows Preview
A chilly afternoon in Ballarat awaits on Sunday for a finals-like clash between the Dogs and Crows.
Both teams are in cracking form right now, the Bulldogs adding to Carlton’s misery last week with a fourth straight win, and the Crows looking every bit a September contender after blowing out St Kilda at home.
Home-field advantage is likely the only reason the Dogs have opened as the short-priced favourite, because if the Crows come out and kick straight again, they are very capable of winning this by plenty.
As we’ve said for the last two years, inaccuracy in front of goal continues to haunt the Dogs, and that is exactly why the door was left open for Carlton last week in a stirring final quarter.
Adelaide is obviously loaded up forward, but the run through the middle has been fantastic to watch – led by Brownlow smokie, Jordan Dawson.
Brodie Smith also rewound the clock last week with an enormous impact in the dying stages against the Saints, and he should prove a real handful for a Bulldogs team that is ranked top four in disposals allowed to opponents.
It’s worth remembering that these two sides played out an instant classic at Mars Stadium last year, the Crows prevailing 63-62 thanks to a late goal from Tex Walker.
Overall, the Dogs have a great record at the line in Ballarat, while the other handy trend worth noting is that they have won nine straight against opponents ranked lower on the ladder.
Adelaide could carve the Bulldogs up through the middle of the field, and it’s worrying to learn how poorly the Dogs have tackled this year.
All things considered, this one should follow a similar script to last season’s clash, but the value on the Crows is tough to ignore.
