Brisbane’s season has gone from bad to worse, and their inconsistency has created a mental barrier they can’t seem to overcome.

They’re fresh off a bye, which could give them an edge, but are they really playing for anything? Even with a win they still sit a game and a half out of the eight, without the rest of Round 13 taking place yet.

Goal efficiency average has been down this year for the Lions, sitting at 16th in the competition, which has minimised the impact they can have in the stoppage dominance.

The Dogs have had the issue of being ineffective inside 50, ranking top five for disposal efficiency and inside 50s, but lacking the emphasis to put teams away.

The loss of Sam Darcy to suspension places greater pressure on Rory Lobb to present as a tall target, but the Dogs have found reliability in their midfielders to hit the scoreboard in recent weeks.

That’s the difference compared to the Lions, where a lack of scoring presence from their midfielders has left a heavy reliance on their tall forwards to remain consistent.

Brisbane’s second trip to Marvel in a row might end very similar to the first one.
