The Hawks seem to be regressing in their rebuild and if it wasnt for a win against the bottom-placed Roos, its hard to differentiate the two sides who arent able to execute a competitive style.
The Dogs inconsistency strikes again, as they went down to the out-of-form Dockers in the West.
Now sitting at 3-4, it feels like a similar scenario for the Dogs, who arent serious enough to contend for the top four, but will be constantly knocking at the door of the top eight right up until the final week.
For the Hawks, its hard to find where the optimism comes from. If the confidence in the Sam Mitchell changeover in the coaches box was all guns blazing, there are certainly cries for help with the lack of gameplan execution hes providing.
Its generally a lack of footy smarts in transition that leads to costly turnovers, a lack of defensive running, and a general lack of commitment to understanding what effective ball movement looks like.
The Dogs will be keen to punish at the contest and stoppages and if theyre generally clean and well-calculated in transition, the gaps will open up.
Every game seems too big of a task for the Hawks now, which is a shame with the talent they possess.
