Geale primed for IBF title defence

Australian boxer Daniel Geale declared his preparation perfect after weighing in just over the limit for his IBF middleweight world title defence against Osumanu Adama in Hobart on Wednesday night.

Geale said he would have no trouble shedding the small amount of weight he needs to get from 73kg to the allowable maximum of 72.574kg.

American-based Ghanaian Adama weighed in at 72.45kg for Geale’s second defence of the title he won in Germany last year.

“It’s been a long training camp, I’ve been working really hard and I can’t wait to get in there,” Geale said.

“I’m feeling a hundred per cent, the body’s great and I’ve done everything perfectly this time.

“Mentally, I’m exactly where I need to be.”

Fellow Australian and IBF featherweight world champion Billy Dib came in at 58.4kg, with Mexican challenger Eduardo Escobedo 58.75kg, both just over the allowable weight.

Adama’s trainer Joseph Awionga and promoter Gary Francisco held up proceedings at the weigh-in with an animated verbal stoush beforehand.
