Preview:
With the 2013-14 version of the Big Bash reaching its half way point, games are becoming crucial and Sunday’s clash between the Strikers and the Sixers could go some way towards deciding the fate of these two sides. The Strikers have been very impressive and would have had maximum points but for rain interruption in their opening game. That positive start should see them make the semis but will they be joined by 2012 Champions the Sixers?
The bookies are predicting a comfortable afternoon for the Strikers and on the eve of this important game, the home side are hot favourites for the win at best odds of 1.67 with Paddy Power and Coral. Alternatively, you can claim the Sixers as the outside bet at a best price of 2.25 with either Ladbrokes or 888Sport.
There’s always value in backing the outsiders in T20 cricket but the Adelaide franchise look so strong right now and they could possibly be the only serious challengers to the Stars in this tournament. They may have lost Johan Botha but his replacement – Shakib al-Hasan – might just strengthen the team and the sensible bet here is on a Strikers’ victory.
Alex Hales has been in powerful form since the opening day of the competition and the Notts Outlaw is the favourite to score most runs for the Strikers at best odds of 3.75 with Ladbrokes and Skybet. The consistent Michael Klinger is next at best odds of 4.00 with bet365 while Phil Hughes is available at a best price of 5.50 with Paddy Power and Stan James.
Shakib al-Hasan’s arrival gives you a new option at best odds of 6.00 with Ladbrokes and Skybet while Nathan Reardon may give you some value if the top order fold at a best price of 9.00 with bet365 and Stan James.
Moving along to the Sydney Sixers where Michael Lumb has top scored in the previous two matches but he stays at best odds of 4.00 with 888Sport ahead of this game. England’s Lumb is in fine form and could prove to be a wise choice once again.
Moving through the order and fellow opener Nic Maddinson is quoted at a top price of 4.33 with Coral and then we have a gap to the experienced Marcus North at best odds of 6.00 with Skybet and 888Sport.
Ravi Bopara has yet to fire in this tournament but the Essex man remains a threat at a generous best price of 6.50 with bet365 and Paddy Power while you can also claim all rounder Moises Henriques at the same best odds of 6.50 with Paddy Power and William Hill.
Man of the Match betting is in and it shows joint favourites in Alex Hales and Michael Klinger, both of whom are available at the same best price of 7.50 with 888Sport. The standout pick from a value point of view however is Shakib al-Hasan who can offer quick runs together with vital wickets. Shakib is quoted at excellent best odds of 15.00 with BetVictor.
The Strikers have been seriously good since the first ball of their campaign and should make it through to the play offs quite comfortably. The Sixers can also qualify but they may have to wait until after Sunday’s game before they can claim any more group points.
