Aussie women make 7-91 in T20 v England

CHESTER-LE-STREET, England, Aug 31 AAP – Australia were restricted to a meagre 7-91 from their 20 overs in the dead-rubber final Twenty20 match of the women’s Ashes on Saturday.

Having surrendered the title by losing the second T20 match in Southampton on Thursday, Australia were looking to salvage some pride in the closing game of the series.

But their campaign looks set to end in a fifth-straight defeat unless they can produce something special with the ball at Chester-le-Street.

Meg Lanning, Australia’s best performer with the bat this series, top scored with 32 while captain Jodie Fields (14) and opener Alyssa Healy (10) were the only others to reach double figures.

Dual international Ellyse Perry’s disappointing series continued with a third-ball duck.

Danielle Hazel (2-20) was England’s best with the ball, bowling both Perry and Alex Blackwell in the same over.

England hold an unassailable 10-4 lead in the points-based, multi-format series, which also featured a Test match and three one-day games.

A return series will be held in the Australian summer.
