Bailey cleared to play WACA clash

Stand-in Australian captain George Bailey has shrugged off any injury concerns to declare himself a certain starter for Friday’s one-day clash with England at the WACA Ground.

Bailey has been struggling with a hip flexor injury.

But he said the complaint wouldn’t stop him from taking over the captaincy on Friday in the absence of rested skipper Michael Clarke.

“I’m 100 per cent good to go,” Bailey said after his net session on Thursday.

Australia lead 3-0 in the best-of-five series, with Darren Lehmann’s men surging to the top of the ODI rankings following India’s loss to New Zealand on Wednesday.

But with Australia opting to rest Clarke, Brad Haddin, Shane Watson and David Warner, England fancy their chances of breaking a demoralising nine-match losing streak.

“It probably is their best chance (of victory),” Bailey conceded.

“But having said that, I reckon our team is still pretty good. I’m not that fussed about what England think or how they’re going.

“If we win tomorrow, it would be 10 straight wins against England. That equals a record.

“It’s been a hell of a summer and we won’t be coming in nonchalant or complacent.about what’s ahead of us.”

Australia: George Bailey (capt), Mitchell Johnson (vc), Aaron Finch, Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Wade, Steve Smith, Nathan Coulter-Nile, James Pattinson, James Faulkner, Dan Christian
