Bulls recall spinner for vital Shield game

Legspinner Cameron Boyce has been recalled to the Bulls side for the crunch Sheffield Shield clash with South Australia at the Gabba which starts on Thursday.

Boyce, who was 13th man for last week’s drawn match against NSW at the SCG, has been promoted at the expense of off-spinning allrounder Jason Floros.

The young wrist spinner has taken 19 wickets in six games for Queensland this season and his place in the starting line-up will depend heavily on the state of the Gabba wicket.

Torrential rain for the past 36 hours has severely reduced the amount of time groundsmen have had to prepare the strip for the season-defining clash.

Whether it will be conducive to spin will not be known until Thursday morning.

The final round of Shield games features four teams vying for top spot on the ladder and the right to host the final while the other finalist place is also up for grabs.

The Bulls need a few things to fall into place to finish on top of the table and host the final.

If the Bulls beat the Redbacks outright, Tasmania do likewise against WA in Hobart and Victoria defeat NSW at the MCG, Queensland will finish first.

The Bulls, Victoria and Tasmania are all on 30 points while Western Australia are on 34.

Team: James Hopes (capt), Cameron Boyce, Joe Burns, Ben Cutting, Ryan Harris, Chris Hartley, Alex Kemp, Chris Lynn, Steve Magoffin, Alister McDermott, Andrew Robinson, Wade Townsend (12th man to be named).
