Edwards returns to take on Australia

Fast bowler Fidel Edwards was the biggest inclusion as the West Indies named their 14-man squad on Sunday to play Australia in two Twenty20 internationals.

Not surprisingly, the squad features several players to have performed so well during the ongoing one-day series with allrounders Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell and Dwayne Bravo all named.

But 30-year-old quick Edwards, a 51-Test veteran, will return for the T20s beginning in St Lucia on Tuesday after being overlooked for the one-dayers by selectors.

The other additions to the squad were left-arm seamer Krishmar Santokie, batting allrounders Dwayne Smith and Nkrumah Bonner and left-arm spinner Garey Mathurin.

West Indies chairman of selectors Clyde Butts said he was hopeful the players chosen would be able to continue the form shown by the one-day side.

“We have named a squad with a mixture of experience and youth and we believe they have the quality to defeat the Australians,” Butts said.

The second and final T20 will be played in Bridgetown, Barbados next Friday.

Windies squad: Darren Sammy (capt), Dwayne Bravo, Carlton Baugh, Nkrumah Bonner, Darren Bravo, Johnson Charles, Fidel Edwards, Garey Mathurin, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Marlon Samuels, Krishmar Santokie, Dwayne Smith.
