England win toss, bat first at MCG

England have won the toss and will bat first in Sunday’s opening one-day international against Australia at the MCG.

Alastair Cook’s tourists will be hoping for a change of fortune in the five-match series after going down 5-0 in the Ashes Test series.

In the past four Ashes contests, the losers of the Test series have turned the tables in the one-dayers. However Australia have good recent form over England at ODI level, having won their series in the UK in September 2013.

The match is set to begin in sunny conditions with a top of 25C forecast.

Australia have rested paceman Mitchell Johnson for game one while England are giving their pace spearhead Stuart Broad two games off after a tough Ashes series.

England go into the match with no specialist spinner. Australia’s slow-bowling attack will be led by Xavier Doherty and Glenn Maxwell.

Teams:

Australia: Michael Clarke (capt), George Bailey, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Xavier Doherty, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, Brad Haddin, Clint McKay, Glenn Maxwell, David Warner, Shane Watson.

England: Alastair Cook (capt), Ian Bell, Joe Root, Gary Ballance, Eoin Morgan, Ravi Bopara, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Tim Bresnan, Chris Jordan, Boyd Rankin.
