Cricket NSW has changed its constitution to rush former Test captain Mark Taylor back onto the Cricket Australia (CA) board.
Cricket NSW powerbrokers altered the organisation’s rules so they could nominate a representative that is not from the state organisation’s board.
Long-serving CA board member Taylor was controversially shown the door last year when the entity was streamlined to a new nine-member board.
Then NSW chairman Harry Harinath claimed the one guaranteed NSW seat at the CA table, with Taylor missing out on one of the three new places for independents.
When Harinath resigned from his post in February, following the end of Dave Gilbert’s 11-year reign as Cricket NSW chief executive, the door was open for Taylor’s return.
“I commend the Cricket NSW Board and delegates for having the foresight to amend the constitution,” Cricket NSW chairman John Warn said in a statement.
“He has integrity, knowledge and standing in the cricket world and will be of tremendous value to both Cricket NSW and Cricket Australia.
“As a former State and Test captain, and someone who hails from country NSW, Mark will bring a unique and broad insight to the position and will provide outstanding leadership on the Cricket Australia board.”
Taylor joined the NSW Cricket board shortly after the end of his playing career in 1999.
He was elected as one of three NSW representatives on the CA board in 2004.
