Australian Glenn Maxwell has continued his explosive form in the Indian Premier League, guiding the Kings XI Punjab to a 44 run win over the Chennai Super Kings.
In a man of the match performance, the right-hander smashed 90 runs off 38 balls as Kings XI reached 4-231 off its 20 overs at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
From seven matches this tournament Maxwell has hit 435 runs, including 27 sixes, at a strike rate of 203.
It was the fourth time he has fallen just short of a century during this IPL season, following his innings of 95, 89 and 95 in the opening three games.
He leads the competition for most runs, has hit the most sixes, has the highest strike rate and the three highest scores.
He was eventually dismissed, caught by Ravindra Jadeja near the midwicket fence off the bowling of Mohit Sharma.
However his Australian teammate George Bailey picked up where he left off, smashing a quickfire 40 off 13 balls – including back-to-back sixes in the final over – to help Punjab to a massive total.
Maxwell also took his first wicket of the tournament, dismissing Suresh Raina for 35 as Chennai could only manage 6-187 off their 20 overs.
With the victory Kings XI Punjab jumped Chennai to return to the top of the table.
