South Africa had the upper hand when rain stopped play after 35 overs in Saturday’s third one-day match against New Zealand.
New Zealand were 4-140 after being sent in to bat when rain, which had threatened for most of the match, forced players from the field. The start of play had been briefly delayed by a damp outfield.
James Franklin was 22 not out and Zimbabwe-born batsman Colin de Grandhomme, making his one-day international debut, was 24 not out when the teams went off.
Captain Brendon McCullum had earlier made 47 in a restrained New Zealand batting performance.
South Africa holds a winning 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
