SA openers frustrate Tasmanian bowlers

Captain Michael Klinger posted a century to lead South Australia’s defiance of Tasmania on the final day of the Sheffield Shield match in Adelaide.

The Redbacks were 1-223 in their second innings at lunch on Saturday’s last day, with Klinger unbeaten on 120 and Tom Stray making 90.

SA still trail Tasmania’s first innings total by 50 runs, but the huge opening partnership frustrated the Tigers’ push for an outright victory.

The Tigers currently have 30 points, equal with Queensland and just four shy of leaders Western Australia.

Tasmania’s only success in Saturday’s first session came in the over before lunch when Stray was trapped lbw by paceman Jackson Bird to fall just short of a maiden first-class century.
