Captain Michael Klinger top-scored as South Australia set Tasmania 286 to win Saturday’s one-day cup final in Adelaide.
Klinger made 81 from 105 balls as the Redbacks were all out for 285 from 49.4 overs.
Tasmanian allrounder James Faulkner took 4-75 from 12 overs and paceman Jackson Bird claimed three wickets.
Klinger and his opening partner Daniel Harris (60 from 62 balls) blasted a 133-run partnership inside the initial 25 overs.
But Harris’ dismissal started a slide of 4-62 in the next 14 overs.
Tasmania’s quest for a third one-day crown in five seasons was hampered by three dropped catches as fieldsmen struggled in 40 degree temperature.
Tiger Ben Laughlin turfed a sitter at point from Klinger’s bat when the Redbacks captain was on 43 while Ricky Ponting, at backward point, dropped a high one-handed chance when Harris was 53.
Ponting later made amends to dismiss Callum Ferguson (28 from 33 balls), diving to his right to complete a spectacular mid-air catch.
Tom Cooper (15) fell cheaply before valuable late cameos from Theo Doropoulos, who smacked four sixes in making 40 from 34 balls, and Cameron Borgas (29 from 28 balls).
