Pakistan international Yasir Arafat has signed with the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League.
The 31-year-old fast bowler has filled the international spot vacated by West Indian Dwayne Smith, who is expected to miss the entire T20 tournament due to personal reasons.
Arafat, a short-form specialist, arrived in Perth on Monday and is expected to be available for all remaining games of the season if required.
A decision on his inclusion in the squad for the Boxing Day clash with the Melbourne Renegades will be made by the match committee at a later date.
Arafat has played three Tests and 11 one-day internationals for Pakistan and arrives after a stint with English county side Somerset this year, where he played alongside fellow Scorchers bowler Alfonso Thomas.
